Drones
Do NOT fly close to airports
There are a number of rules and guidelines that you must follow before you are allowed to fly a drone. Among other things, it is illegal to fly a drone closer than 5 km from TORP Sandefjord Airport or other airports, unless you have permission from LTT (Air Traffic Service). See the drone map for airports.
Make yourself familiar withe the rules of flying drones
You are required to take the drone license and have liability insurance for drone flying. It is not allowed to fly over crowds and you must always keep the drone within visual range. These are just some of the rules you must follow. The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority gives you a full overview of the rules for drone use in Norway.
Get your drone license and register drone flights
To fly a drone in Norway, you must register at flydrone.no and take the necessary courses and exams. You are also encouraged to register all flights in Avidrone (App Store and Google Play). Avidrone is an app developed by Avinor and others, to manage drones in a safe and efficient way. Through this system, you also apply for permission to fly near airports.
Avidrone replaces Ninox
Avidrone is Avinor’s new drone app, replacing the previous Ninox Drone app as of December 8, 2025. From 8th of December it will be available in App Store and Google Play. In Avidrone, as a drone pilot, you get a good overview of drone no-fly zones, and you can also apply for permission to fly within the no-fly zone of several airports directly in the drone app. Avidrone also enables you to enter your drone plan so that your flight becomes visible to other drone pilots in the area.
